As part of our ongoing spotlight series, we connected with Biologic Coordinator Lu Teves to learn more about her journey, what motivates her, and how she found her calling in patient access. From organizing closets to navigating complex prior authorizations, Lu brings heart, precision, and purpose to everything she does. Here’s what she shared.
Q: What is an interesting fact about you that we would not find on your resume?
A: I have a deep love for organizing and streamlining things—whether it’s a messy closet, a chaotic workspace, or a complicated prior authorization.
Q: What was your first job?
A: Pharmacy cashier at Rite Aid.
Q: What does a typical weekend look like for you?
A: Momma duty, laundry, cleaning, cooking, naps, movies!
Q: What motivates you?
A: Family – My husband and my 2 boys!
Q: What is your favorite place you’ve ever travelled to?
A: Dubai, Philippines, and Thailand.
Q: What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery?
A: Buy my kids a HOME, pay bills, invest, help my family and relatives, and TRAVEL.
Q: If you could be a pro at any Olympic Sport, which one would you choose?
A: Volleyball.
Q: How long have you been a BC?
A: Almost 5 years, still new.
Q: How did you become a BC?
A: The Biologic Coordinator left the company, and although I was initially hired as a dispensing technician, the role was unexpectedly handed over to me. At first, I felt overwhelmed and unsure, but over time, I grew into it and discovered a real passion for the work.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I enjoy being a Biologic Coordinator because it allows me to directly impact patients’ lives by helping them access the treatments they need. Navigating insurance approvals, prior authorizations, and specialty medications can be overwhelming for patients, and I take pride in being their advocate. It’s incredibly rewarding to see a patient finally get approved for a medication that improves their quality of life—and knowing I played a role in that process makes the job meaningful to me.
Q: What excites you about your involvement in BCoD?
A: What excites me about being involved in the group is the sense of collaboration and shared purpose. I love being part of a team where everyone brings their own strengths and experiences to the table, and we work together toward a common goal. It’s motivating to learn from others, contribute ideas, and grow both personally and professionally.
